Terms of Hire

Rental periods are calculated on a 24-hour basis from the agreed pickup time.

Rental rates are quoted based on the vehicle, rental period and applicable seasonal or other pricing. Rates are confirmed at the time of booking and may be subject to applicable taxes, government charges and fees.

Additional charges may apply where a vehicle is returned after the agreed return time.

Drivers must:

• be at least 25 years old; and
• have held a valid driver's licence for at least 3 years.

A valid driver's licence and government-issued identification must be presented before the vehicle is released.

Only drivers approved by Tradewind may operate the vehicle.

Submitting a reservation request through the Tradewind website does not by itself constitute a confirmed rental.

A booking is confirmed once Tradewind has accepted the reservation and any required deposit has been paid.

Depending on when a booking is cancelled, deposits or other amounts may be non-refundable.

Customers should notify Tradewind as soon as possible if they need to cancel or change a reservation.

Failure to collect the vehicle within the agreed period without contacting Tradewind may result in the reservation being treated as a no-show.

Requests to extend a rental should be made as early as possible and, where practicable, at least 24 hours before the scheduled return.

Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and Tradewind's approval.

Vehicles returned after the agreed return time may incur additional rental and/or administrative charges.

Vehicles will be provided with full tank of fuel at the commencement of the rental.

The vehicle must be returned with a full tank of fuel.

Where the vehicle is returned with less than a full tank, Tradewind may charge for the fuel required to restore the vehicle to a full tank together with any applicable refuelling or service charge.

Vehicles are provided with comprehensive insurance cover in accordance with the applicable motor insurance policy.

The Hirer is responsible for the applicable damage excess and for any loss or damage not covered by the applicable insurance.

Insurance protection may not apply where the vehicle is used in breach of these Terms of Hire, including where the vehicle is:

• operated by an unauthorised driver;
• used for a prohibited purpose;
• driven under the influence of alcohol or drugs; or
• operated negligently or recklessly.

The applicable insurance arrangements and damage excess will be confirmed as part of the booking.

The Hirer is responsible for taking reasonable care of the vehicle and must comply with all applicable laws and road regulations.

The vehicle must not be:

• used for racing or speed testing;
• driven off-road or on unsuitable terrain;
• used for commercial passenger services;
• sub-rented or loaned to an unauthorised driver; or
• used for any unlawful purpose.

Any accident, damage, theft, warning light or mechanical issue must be reported to Tradewind immediately.

Only drivers approved by Tradewind may operate the vehicle.

Any additional driver must satisfy Tradewind's driver requirements and may be subject to an additional charge.

The Hirer remains responsible for the actions of any additional driver.

Vehicles are inspected before and after each rental.

The vehicle should be returned:

• on time;
• to the agreed location;
• with a full tank of fuel;
• with all keys and accessories; and
• in substantially the same condition in which it was provided, reasonable wear and tear excepted.

Tradewind may photograph and inspect the vehicle at pickup and return.

The Hirer may be charged for damage, excessive cleaning, missing items, lost or damaged keys, or other costs arising from the rental.

Tradewind operates a non-smoking fleet.

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside our vehicles.

Additional cleaning or restoration charges may apply where a vehicle is returned with excessive dirt, stains, food or beverage spills, smoke or vaping odours, pet-related contamination, or other conditions beyond normal use.

Customers experiencing a breakdown or mechanical issue should contact Tradewind immediately.

Tradewind will use reasonable efforts to assist customers with breakdowns and mechanical issues during the rental period.

Additional charges may apply for services arising from customer negligence, misuse, lost keys, lockouts, flat tyres, running out of fuel or other circumstances for which the Hirer is responsible.

Tradewind offers vehicle delivery and collection at locations agreed at the time of booking, subject to availability and any applicable delivery or collection charges.

Airport, hotel, villa and other delivery arrangements should be confirmed when making your reservation.

Customers should provide accurate delivery details and, where applicable, flight information to assist with coordinating delivery.

A Government Levy of $5.00 per rental day applies to each rental, capped at a maximum of $35.00 for rentals of 7 days or more.

The applicable Government Levy will be included in the estimated total shown during the booking process and forms part of the charges payable for the rental.

A security deposit or payment-card pre-authorisation may be required before the vehicle is released.

The deposit or pre-authorisation may be used to cover amounts properly owing under the rental, including damage, the applicable excess, fuel, cleaning, late returns, traffic fines, missing accessories and other charges.

Any applicable government charges, taxes, levies, delivery fees or optional services will be disclosed as part of the booking.

Tradewind vehicles may be equipped with GPS or other vehicle-tracking technology for purposes including vehicle security, theft prevention and recovery, fleet management and mileage monitoring.

Tracking information will be handled in accordance with applicable law and Tradewind's privacy practices.

The Hirer is responsible for traffic tickets, parking penalties, tolls, fines and other charges arising from their use of the vehicle during the rental period.

Tradewind may charge a reasonable administration fee for processing such matters.
